Attention Deficit Disorder (known as ADHD and ADD) has a neurobiological basis and manifests itself in the areas of concentration, short-term memory, and volition (typically inability to plan, perform administrative tasks accurately, balance workloads, or procrastinate). In the case of Attention Deficit Hyperkinetic Disorder (ADHD), impatience, impulsivity, slurred speech or inability to control the need for movement or adrenaline are added.
Diagnosis of attention disorders

Diagnosis of ADHD and ADD
The diagnosis of ADHD and ADD is detailed and complex, as these disorders can manifest as anxiety, depression and substance dependence. It is from these symptoms that attention deficit disorders need to be distinguished. For example, addictive substances work differently in the brain of those affected, and activating drugs such as alcohol or stimulants are more likely to calm the person with attention deficit disorder and enable them to concentrate more. Therefore, the treatment of addiction must first focus on treating the cause of the withdrawal itself.
How is ADHD and ADD diagnosed?
Recognizing an individual with attention deficit disorder requires a detailed diagnosis that is based not only on the subjective statements of the client or his/her environment, but also on objective testing methods.

The first meeting includes a detailed anamnestic and diagnostic interview. During the second meeting, the client undergoes diagnostic testing methods that provide an objective picture of the person's cognitive and personality profile.
We use, for example, neuropsychological batteries and attention tests, the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory, etc. Self-assessment scales and questionnaires are an equally important part of the testing methods, thanks to which we determine the client's subjective experience of his/her difficulties and experiences.
The diagnostic psychologist then administers and evaluates the results of the tests and other diagnostic tools. At the end of the consultation, the client receives a detailed report with the results, diagnostic conclusion and recommendations.
During this consultation, the client receives specific recommendations for follow-up care, which we can provide directly under one roof at the Adicare clinic.
Thanks to the cooperation of a psychologist, a psychotherapist and possibly a psychiatrist, we achieve optimal results. It is also possible to set the appropriate medication, as poorly set medication or an inappropriately chosen psychotherapeutic method can worsen the client's problems.

Treatment of ADHD and ADD
Therapy and medication for attention deficit disorders must be different than for depression, addictive disorders or anxiety disorders. An incorrectly chosen pharmacotherapy or psychotherapeutic method will not only not help the client, but may also harm him. In the case of minor patients, it is often necessary to present the results of the diagnosis to the school or educational and psychological counselling centre so that the child or adolescent is not subjected to demands that are difficult or even unmanageable on the basis of his or her disorder. In the case of unrecognised ADHD or ADD, children and adolescents may suffer from self-esteem problems, anxiety, a negative self-image or resistance to educational and educational institutions.
Attention deficit disorder does not reduce intellect, on the contrary - among the above-average intelligent and successful individuals, we find many people with attention deficit disorder. The key to success is to accept this difference and to learn how to deal with it with the help of specialised CBT therapy. It is also important to recognize and use one's own strengths and talents, which many people with Attention Deficit Disorder unquestionably have, unlike the general population.
