Treatment and symptoms of burnout syndrome

Stress and constant pressure to perform at work and at home and fear of failure. Anxiety that I will no longer be able to meet the demands of those around me, but sometimes even my own ambitions. These are some of the factors that lead many previously high performing and capable people to feel suddenly weak, frustrated and completely exhausted. These symptoms suggest that this is not ordinary fatigue, but one of a spectrum of stress disorders known to the wider public as Burnout Syndrome, sometimes also Burnout Syndrome.

Typical symptoms

The symptoms of burnout syndrome should definitely not be ignored. Stress disorder usually does not go away on its own. The intensity of the negative feelings increases, the sources of psychological energy become more and more depleted, which makes it impossible for the affected person to break free from this emotional vicious circle.

Changing jobs alone often doesn't help. Most of the public believes that burnout syndrome only affects managers, rescue workers or workers in other exposed professions.

Modern research shows that the cause of this stress disorder is primarily due to pressure to over-perform and fear of failure.

This pressure is not necessarily created only by the environment, often a person is a victim of excessive demands on himself and an unhealthy model of self-concept.

The source of self-esteem and acceptable self-image becomes only the performance in various fields.

It is no coincidence, then, that more recent research on stress disorders has shown that in recent decades a large group of patients suffering from burnout syndrome includes mothers on maternity leave, housewives, students and even some unemployed people.

Other symptoms of Burnout syndrome

The prolonged internal stress to which people suffering from burnout syndrome are exposed also causes problems on a physical and behavioural level. The most common accompanying symptom is significant sleep disturbance. The majority of those affected usually suffer from insomnia, while a smaller percentage have a markedly increased need for sleep, which, however, does not bring the desired recovery.

Another typical accompanying symptom of Burnout syndrome are various psychosomatic problems such as headaches, back pain, digestive problems, frequent viruses and others.

Treatment of burnout syndrome

Many people who develop Burnout Syndrome seek relief from these unpleasant conditions through increased consumption of alcohol, hypnotics (sleeping pills) or other addictive substances. However, addictive substances provide only short-term relief; in the medium term, the symptoms of the stress disorder worsen dramatically. The risk of addiction is also significant. If risky drinking is associated with burnout syndrome, it is advisable to combine therapy with elements of a Controlled Consumption Programme.

We have a high success rate in treating burnout syndrome. We work with our clients in the form of an individual psychotherapy program, which we combine with relaxation therapies, breathing strategies for stress management and elements of Mindfulness.
