There are a number of psychotherapeutic methods which a psychologist, psychiatrist or psychosocial worker is entitled to use if he or she has completed an intensive five-year training course, is obliged to undergo continuous training in the field and is subject to appropriate professional supervision. Therefore, any appropriately trained therapist may offer one or two psychotherapeutic methods. Accredited psychotherapeutic approaches should not be confused with various short-term courses. They have their own firm rules that guarantee the client's safety above all. The arbitrary application of various non-certified procedures does not bring the necessary effect to a person who is very vulnerable as a result of his psychological problems and may even harm him.

Supportive psychotherapy

We use supportive psychotherapy in difficult situations in life, in which all of us can find ourselves and which cause us considerable psychological suffering. The degree of this suffering does not have to be conditioned by any psychological disorder. However, with the help of supportive psychotherapy, these traumatic experiences can be overcome in a reasonable time without causing any long-term consequences such as reactive depression, post-traumatic syndrome or the development of an addictive illness.

Typical traumas that we help our clients with in the form of supportive psychotherapy include loss of a partner, mid-life crisis, illness, death of a loved one, personal encounters with deception, bullying or other aggression, and many others.

Supportive psychotherapy can also be self-developmental. Even a person who is psychologically healthy and whose life seems to be going well may experience unpleasant emotional states due to feelings of emptiness or loss of motivation. In self-developmental psychotherapy, the client, with the help of the therapist, searches for a deeper meaning in life, satisfies the need for spirituality (always a fundamentally non-religious spirituality) and gets to know himself and his real needs better. He strengthens his existing strengths, identifies psychological inhibitions and discovers new potential within himself.

In this respect, humanistic psychotherapeutic trends such as Daseinsanalysis, existential psychotherapy and others are extremely well applied.

Therapeutic psychotherapy

Therapeutic psychotherapy is directly targeted to combat a particular psychiatric difficulty. In our clinic these are most often depression, anxiety, stress disorders, addiction disorders or even some personality disorders. However, proper therapeutic psychotherapy should begin to be intertwined with supportive and self-development psychology for the full effect of the therapeutic process. Our goal is to strengthen the person in his difficult life situation so that he does not become dependent on the therapist's help, but can once again live a free and full life. There is no one psychotherapeutic method for everything.

There is no one single psychotherapeutic method that would encompass and effectively process all the above mentioned topics. Therefore, choosing the right psychotherapeutic method before starting psychotherapy is extremely important. For this reason, an initial and diagnostic consultation is essential to provide the client with sufficient information and space to formulate his/her requirements and goals more precisely. When choosing a psychotherapeutic method, the diagnosing psychologist must take into account the specifics of the psychological difficulties, the client's personality traits, medical history, introspection skills, and the client's own wishes and ideas.
