Our first meeting

Treatment in our centre is preceded by a non-binding initial and diagnostic consultation. It consists of a diagnostic interview and a battery of written tests, which the psychologist selects on the basis of the interview and the client receives by e-mail. It is natural that someone may feel apprehensive or simply uncomfortable about the first meeting. Talking about one's difficulties in a strange environment and with a stranger may arouse stress or anxiety. These feelings are anticipated by an experienced psychologist. Some people find it easy to talk about their difficulties, others are more comfortable just answering questions. There is certainly no need to prepare for this conversation in advance; diagnostic psychologists are respectful and empathetic. They will be happy to help you with everything.

Why is a therapy plan important?

The answers to the six questions below form what is known as a treatment plan. The therapeutic plan is important precisely to prevent the whole therapeutic process from becoming a mere "chat", which is pleasant and relieving but does not lead to significant change. Psychotherapies are not magic; every client should be able to be informed about what will happen with them and what methods the therapist will use in their work.

Psychotherapy can take many forms. In our Centre we specialise in both so-called supportive psychotherapy and therapeutic and relaxation psychotherapy. Supportive therapy helps the client to resolve e.g. relationship problems, process traumas or engage in personal development.

Therapeutic psychotherapy focuses on the treatment of specific psychiatric difficulties such as anxiety, depression, excessive stress, sleep disorders, psychosomatic difficulties, personality disorders, etc. Cognitive relaxation and mindfulness is one of the state-of-the-art practices in mental health promotion and recovery. This therapy specializes in the treatment of resistant stress, the client first under the guidance of the therapist and then learns the skills of intensive mental relaxation on his own.

Estimating the length of the therapeutic intervention is also essential information. The therapeutic process involves a certain investment - time, financial and psychological. Every client should have this information before starting the process. Of course, the estimate cannot be completely accurate; we base it on the recommended minimum number of hours for a given psychotherapeutic method and on our practical experience. For supportive and self-development psychotherapy, the length of the therapeutic process is very difficult to estimate.

What exactly is bothering me?

We will name the main problem together, i.e. we will establish the main diagnosis. We often struggle with stress, sadness, insomnia, exhaustion, hopelessness or fear. However, depressive, stress and anxiety disorders are numerous and each is approached therapeutically somewhat differently. If we specify the problems more precisely, this will help us to combat them more effectively and in a more targeted way.

What causes my problems, what can make them worse or perpetuate them?

We put the main problem into a broader context and identify any associated difficulties that we may no longer be fully aware of when experiencing psychological pain. These difficulties can often act as triggers for the main problem and it is important to map them. This is the only way we can properly tailor the therapeutic treatment.

How serious is my trouble, do I need medication?

We will determine the severity of the problem and recommend the optimal form of help. Sometimes psychotherapy is sufficient (reference to psychotherapeutic methods, text to follow), sometimes it is appropriate to supplement psychotherapy with gentle medication, examination by an internist, neurologist, etc. Treatment of some psychological problems is accelerated by e.g. breathing therapy, meditation therapy, etc.

Which psychotherapeutic method is best for me?

What is KBT, DBT, psychodynamics, logotherapy or existential analysis? Some psychotherapeutic directions work more with thoughts, others with emotions, some are more directive, others more supportive and accepting. There are a variety of psychotherapeutic methods. Before entering the therapeutic process, we will recommend the one that best suits not only the nature of your difficulties but also your personality traits. We will also explain the main principles of this approach. In this way you will be able to decide for yourself whether this path suits you and avoid any later disappointment.

How long will the therapy last?

Of course, we cannot give you a precise answer to this question. The degree of therapeutic success depends not only on the chosen method or the person of the therapist, but also on many external factors and the degree of cooperation of the client. However, based on the chosen method and experience with clients with similar problems, we will certainly inform you about the average length of the intervention.

Can I choose my therapist?

We select a personal therapist together with you so that he or she not only has the professional qualifications to solve your problem, but also suits you humanly. We try to take into account your wishes regarding the gender or age of your psychologist. At the first meeting you and your therapist start working together, but in a sense this meeting is also an introduction for you. If the therapist does not suit you personally, there is no need to tell him or her or to give any reason. Just contact the diagnosing psychologist who will work with you to select a replacement therapist. The cost of the dating therapy, if the client fails to establish an appropriate relationship, is of course borne by our clinic. We currently have 25 professionals on our team, so we are able to provide you with a therapist "truly tailored" to you.
